A Bowling Green, Kentucky woman was charged with child abuse after 19 children were left unattended in her home for nearly a weeK.
Warren County Sheriff’s department responded to a welfare complaint at a home at 11:30 p.m on July 2. When they arrived, they found 19 children ranging from 8 months to 14-years-old alone in the house that had reached a 90 DEGREES inside.
The house had no working air during a week when temperatures reached 100 degrees. There was also no food in the home.
The children were taken to the hospital, then placed in the custody of the state.
Jackie Farah, who is the mother of some of the children, was charged with 14 counts of first-DEGREE child abuse (for the children ages 12 and under) and five counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.
The 32-year-old was traveling from Chicago to Bowling Green when officers discovered the children. She was arrested Tuesday afternoon. Additional adults are still being sought for questioning.
Warren County Commonwealth’s Attorney Chris Cohron said his office is working to determine possible criminal charges.
“The possible charges in this investigation may range from endangering the WELFARE a minor up to, depending on the condition of the children, criminal abuse first degree,” Cohron said in an interview with the Bowling Green Daily News.
Nine dogs and a cat were also removed from the home.
