A woman became “pregnant” in her mouth with 12 baby squid after eating uncooked calamari, according to a report from the National Center for Biotechnology Information.  The woman, who lives in South Korea, was eating the squid and felt a sudden pain in her mouth.  The pain was from “baby cephalopods” that had attached to her mouth.

The little pods contain an “ejaculatory apparatus” and sperm, and the appartus forces the sperm into whatever object it is attached to.  The doctors removed the baby pods from the woman’s gums, tongue and cheek.

“On the basis of their morphology and the presence of the sperm bag, the foreign bodies were identified as squid spermatophores,” according to the doctors.  According to Science 2.0, a spermatophore is similar to a cup of semen.

Calamari in the US is typically cooked and internal organs are removed.
