Rick Ross and his Maybach Music Group were able to heat up the beginning of summer with their Self Made 2.
The release from the Warner Bros. signed group, which also boasts Wale, Meek Mill, Stalley, and Omarion, hit No. 4 on the Billboard 200 in its first week, selling 94,000 copies in its first week, far exceeding the predicted sales from last week’s one day total. That amount also surpasses what they crew was able to move last May, with Self Made, Vol. 1, which sold 59,000 units in its first week.
It’s not for another 30 spots that another rap release appears on this weeks chart, as Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded hit No. 34, with 10,000 discs sold. The next three rap releases on the top 200 are also sophomore albums, as Waka Flocka’s Triple F Life: Fans, Friends & Family (No. 44), Drake’s Take Care (No. 50) and B.o.B’s Strange Clouds (No. 52) come in below hip-hop’s current Queen.
Though 50 Cent’s 5 (Murder By Numbers) was supposed to drop yesterday, the G-Unit general pushed the release to Friday, and switched it to a free project. Without that, look out for Prodigy’s H.N.I.C. 3.

Comment by Futuristic Blogger on July 4, 2012 at 6:23pm The industry needs to stop determining rappers success by album sales.
At this point, can you sell show tickets??
Are people willing to pay to see you perform is the question.
