According to DALLAS (AP) — A North Texas jury has found the 22-year-old son of former NBA player Nick Van Exelguilty of murder in the shooting death of a longtime friend.
A Dallas County jury deliberated about 2½ hours before returning its guilty verdict Thursday against Nickey Maxwell Van Exel. The penalty phase begins Friday.Prosecutors had sought a capital murder conviction. They say Van Exel fatally shot Bradley Bassey Eyo in December 2010 and dumped his body at Lake Ray Hubbard on the eastern outskirts of Dallas.
Van Exel’s attorney had said the two were playing with a shotgun at Van Exel’s Garland home, and that Van Exel didn’t know the gun was loaded.His father played 13 seasons in the NBA and is now a player development instructor for the Atlanta Hawks. Hiphopnews24-7.com will keep you updated.

@DADDYMACK.....YO I saw this mess on the news the other day and I flipped out like DAMN....Yo back in 1996 I was in the Dekalb County jail with Nick Van Excel Sr...so when I saw this I was telling my folks like yo...thats f-cked up....my brother was like yo wasnt his dad in DC jail with you back in 96 and we both was like thats crazy. Man I cant believe this....its sad to see generational screw ups.....you would think the cycle would have been broken after Nick Van Excel made it to the NBA....but thats crazy to have your dad in Jail then you go to the NBA and find success then the craziness skips a generation and your son ends up in their and has caught serious time......THIS IS TRAGIC ON SO MANY LEVELS.....MAN THIS IS SAD!!....Van Excel Sr. must have had a messed up relationship with Nick Van Excel because other relatives use to come and visit him in jail but Nick never came to visit him..everyone wanted to see Nick cause he was an NBA STAR back then.....but yeah Nick Sr. he was always bragging about his son but I think they had a messed up relationship cause Nick Van Excel never came to visit or wrote him any letters that I know of.....man this right here is crazy....hits real close to home.

I feel bad for Nick because no father wants his son getting bagged for a M1, but neither do anyone want their child getting locked up period. Its a hurting thing! but as a man if u see ur son go thru that - U defintley have to be stron for him- because that crying shit will make him weak

@DADDYMACK...word....xxtra real talk bro!!!!....I feel you.....My son is only 10 and I try to listen and take advice from anyone who has kids going through the prison system...Ive been locked myself but I cant even think of my son ending up there!!!!!!!!!
